A common statement nowadays (read: since I was born) is, 'how time flies!'. Time was flying when I was three, and it continues its mad dash flight as I add a zero to the three this year. We could learn a thing or two from the flight of time but we are slow learners (at least most of us are) and time is just so difficult to keep track of!
Coming to less philosophical things, I have to admit to a laziness bout. Consider this a confession (or merely an excuse to continue this entry) but since my mini vacation (which I took earlier this month), I found it difficult to come back in the writing mode. Today, though, the writer in me came alive or was rather forced to come to life when I found myself with an hour of nothing to do. It was an exam hall, my students were trying to do a lengthy and annoying brand paper and I had nothing to do except give a few stares to the 'whisperers'.
I must digress from my line of thought here and explain quickly, though concisely, who these 'whisperers' are. They are one of the most interesting species of mankind in an exam room. In an hour the poor souls have to read the question paper, find out to their horror that they don't have any clue (or maybe they have some) of two questions in the paper. Considering that there are only three questions altogether further adds to their misery! They then have to pretend to do the paper, get the attention of their friend sitting in front or at the back, dodge the invigilators, and keep a tab on the time. Multitasking galore! Their body language is the most entertaining; it feels as if one is watching a mime show (a little imagination can go a long way my friends!). They'll stare hard in front of them, a slight frown on their forehead - a picture of the perfect student. After staring, at nothing, doesn't bring them to their eureka moment they look at the paper again waiting for the opportune time. On finding an opportunity, they waste no time and quickly whisper either to the back or in the front. Putting the hand under the chin or running it over the eyes is another move which is usually employed if they an invigilator moves around when he/she is not supposed to. The whisperers are very interesting creatures and a source of much enjoyment!
Coming back to my pre-whisperers writing, I unleashed the writer in me today. I filled out a paper with lots of words (and diagrams) and I have yet to read and see if there is something substantial( my eureka moment?) in it or mere doodling.
Doodling reminds me of an ad of one of my favourite brand, Absolut Vodka. I would have suggested that you check out the Absolut website but unfortunately, 'you are not permitted to view this website due to legal restrictions in your country'. You can check out the ads of this brand on the site, www.absolutads.com, which you are permitted to view. Check out 'Absolut Doodle'.
Brand talk just brought to my mind one of the biggest marketing event in the world, Valentine's Day. How many of us were caught in the madness that surrounds this day? You might not know it but V-day has a lot to do with branding and marketing and a little to do with love. Of course, there's no harm in showing a little (or a lot) of love but don't feel pressurized. I think we succumb to the pressure of celebrating V-day instead of actually celebrating it. Showering the one you love with love does not mean dozens of roses, cards, chocolates, stuff toy, expensive gifts followed by a dinner at some fancy restaurant. It can be one of these or none of these. Hubby dear and I had a very romantic date at home and what was special about it was the fact that we did everything together; from cooking the food to making all the arrangements and though no expensive gifts were exchanged (in fact I think no gifts were exchanged!) we had the most memorable night together. My cousin buddy, Ahsan, hearing about my V-day said, 'you people are too filmy!'.
I guess a little drama adds spice to life. Considering hubby dear is a theatre student, the show has just begun!
